Like every church, we have particular
ways and styles of doing things which come from both our history and tradition
and also because of what we believe. We believe that our environment says
a lot about our purpose and our desire to serve our local Parish to the
best of our ability. Our services are very varied in style and content
as we recongise that people connect and experience God in different ways.
These are 'means to an end' with the end being the opportunity for as
many people as possible to interact with God through song, prayer, bible
study and fellowship together.
About God
We have a great history and stability as the Church of England
and at St Paul's we hold to these statutes and beliefs, for being tried
and tested, true and trust worthy. For those who want an 'in depth' study
on matters of theology, we recommend a visit to the Church of England's
main website using the link on the right. As a summary [ the apostles
creed ] offers a general statement of belief that is often used. The important
thing to consider is not only what you believe, but how your beliefs apply
and give form to your life.
The Good News
We believe that God created the world and that his plan
was always that we should live in harmony with Him. We turned away and
separated ourselves from God with all the wrong-doing and sin in our lives.
As a loving Father, He embarked upon the ultimate 'save & rescue mission'
and came to earth in the form of His son, Jesus. His message was that
we needed to turn around and say 'sorry' to God and He performed many
miracles to prove who He was and to demonstrate God's love and power.
We refused to listen and nailed Him to a cross to die because changing
was too difficult.
This sacrifice of His own life opened the way for us to find forgiveness
because Jesus paid with his own life the debt that is ours for turning
away from God. Not even death could hold Him down and three days later,
Jesus rose again conquering even the grave. Anyone who puts their trust
in God has His promise of spending eternity with Him in Heaven. Jesus
returned to heaven and promised 'the helper' in the person of the Holy
Spirit who first came at Pentecost. This same promise is available to
all believers and it is in the power of the same Holy Spirit, through
the name of Jesus, that we expect to see the same miracles and power at
work amongst us as the modern people of God.
